As Forças de Defesa e Segurança encetaram semana finda uma série de bombardeamentos à serra da Gorongosa, em Sofala, em perseguição aos homens da guerrilha da Renamo. O assalto ao covil de Afonso Dhlakama foi feito com recurso à artilharia pesada.
Não foram usados meios aéreos, conforme explicou Cristovão Chume, Director Nacional de Políticas de Defesa no Ministério da Defesa Nacional.
Numa altura em que Governo e Renamo alcançavam importantes consensos em torno da revisão do Pacote Eleitoral, a tensão militar ganhou terreno em Sofala com novas confrontações.
A Renamo atacou posições das Forças Armadas de Defesa de Moçambique (FADM) em Muxungue, Mucodze e Gravata numa clara atitude de provocação e a resposta do Exército não se fez esperar.
Bombardeamentos intensos foram feitos semana finda pelas FADM na serra da Gorongosa onde se presume esteja aquartelado Afonso Dhlakama.
Cristovão Chume, Director Nacional de Políticas de Defesa no Ministério da Defesa Nacional sublinhou que os ataques à serra de Gorongosa são uma resposta às provocações da guerrilha da Renamo. Chume que falava numa conferência de Imprensa em Maputo disse que as FADM não podiam permanecer “impávidas” diante de um cenário de ataques diários e intermitentes.
Explicou que a Renamo atacou com o firme propósito de cortar as linhas de reabastecimento das Forças de Defesa de Segurança, “uma atitude que não podia ficar sem resposta”.
Salientou que as FADM estão em prontidão combativa e prontas para restabelecer a ordem em qualquer parte do território nacional.
DEMONSTRAÇÃO
DE POTENCIAL BÉLICO
Cristovão Chume esclareceu que o bombardeamento da serra da Gorongosa visou, por outro lado, mostrar à Renamo o potencial bélico das FADM.
Ressaltou que o Exército moçambicano mostrou que, em caso de necessidade, pode empreender ataques de grande envergadura e desmantelar células de guerrilha que sistematicamente têm recorrido às montanhas para se abrigarem.
Desmentiu que meios aéreos tinham sido mobilizados no ataque semana passada à serra da Gorongosa.
RENAMO PREOCUPADA
Perante o cenário de fogo intenso na serra da Gorongosa, a Renamo, através de António Muchanga, expressou preocupação, alegando que as tropas governamentais pretendiam assassinar Afonso Dhlakama “ em parte incerta”.
Muchangadisse que o Exército moçambicano intensificou ataques quando a Renamo observava um cessar-fogo unilateral perante avanços em torno da discussão do Pacote Eleitoral em Maputo.
